Spurs Boss Frank Labels Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Real Supporters'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered keeper Vicario were told later "they cannot be real Spurs supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.
Spurs let in two scores in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th Premier League home defeat of 2025.
But the main topic of discussion was the visitors' second score when Vicario lost the ball far outside his area.
The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a long ball and took the ball towards the sideline.
However, instead of kicking it out of play, the Italian spun and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the sideline measured at thirty-six point six yards.
Moments later when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Tottenham supporters booed him.
Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and again at full-time.
One of those jeering episodes really irritated Frank.
"I heard a few of our fans reportedly booed the situation and booed after, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented about the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals cannot be real Tottenham supporters that do that. Fair enough booing after the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are behind each other going forward."
Tete had handed the visitors a fourth-minute lead prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second period showing.
Ex- top-flight keeper Joe Hart remarked that the next goal was "completely preventable".
"I do appreciate the fans' frustration," Hart continued. "I am aware the role the keeper is playing. He's a great team player, he is a true figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"He was heavily implicated in what ended up to be the winning goal."
'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match
Italian national team the keeper is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.
He stated after the game that he had to take the feedback.
"The second score was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for that," he commented.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a poor manner. That made an even bigger challenge to climb."
He stated being booed "is part of football".
"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "We cannot be affected by the situation in the stands. Supporters have the entitlement to do as they see fit.
"It's on us to stay more calm, to focus on ourselves. We are lacking in composure and poise to overturn outcomes. This match is a poor loss and it is hard to accept."
'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Line'
Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to score.
In fact it was the second most distant top division score of the season – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 metre goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally too came on the same day.
Wilson said he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an open goal to aim for.
10 moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and the midfielder shooting – which was five seconds following the clearance.
"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the area for a long time," he said.
"It amazed me none of the back four returned to the line. When not one of them defended the net, my interest lit up somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a bit of additional time. Then it was solely about trying to achieve the right connection and place it towards goal. I had a good feeling, the moment it came off my boot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Go Against You'
Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unjustifiable - Frank
Although the keeper's error led headlines, this was an all-round poor day for Tottenham to continue their home struggles.
The match was their 10th at home loss of the year in the Premier League, a shared club statistic along with nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.
They still have home games against the manager's former club Brentford and title holders the Reds to come prior to the close of the year.
Just a single of those victories have occurred after the manager took over from his predecessor in the summer.
"If you are down 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated Frank.
"During in a bad spell, all aspects appears to go against you as well – the first was a deflected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.
"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have lost an additional game. Every game has a unique story, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We just need to continue striving. The second half was much better and with luck an aspect we can use to learn."
Tottenham have lost 4 consecutive at home capital clashes for the first time in the top division.
And they are recording nine point five attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the Premier League – their lowest averages on record in a single campaign (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Former Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the stick," the pundit said. "He's taken a prestigious role at a major team with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that accompanies that.
"The performances at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
