Ex- Cincinnati Bengals and Texas Wide Receiver Jordan Shipley Badly Burned in Farm Incident
Ex-University of Texas standout and professional football player Jordan Shipley is receiving treatment after sustaining severe burns in an incident on his ranch near Burnet, Texas.
The Tragic Event
According to a family statement, Shipley was operating a piece of machinery when it ignited. Although the 40-year-old was able to free himself, it was after he suffered major burn injuries over a large area of his body. He was able to get to one of his workers, who drove him to a nearby medical facility. Subsequently, he was airlifted to a hospital in Austin, where he is in serious but stable condition.
“We ask for prayers for a complete recovery and no infections or other issues on his journey back to health,” posted his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on Instagram.
Severity of the Injuries
It has been reported that Shipley suffered third-degree burns to more than 20% of his body. Family members have stated that the primary risk at this stage is infection and pneumonia.
A Look Back at Jordan Shipley's Career
Shipley earned Associated Press All-America honors while at Texas in 2009. As a collegiate athlete, he amassed 248 receptions for 3,191 yards and 33 scores. A dual-sport athlete, he also competed in track for the university.
Selected in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Bengals, he played for Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay over three seasons. He officially retired in 2014.
